My Red City Tour Experience

Submitted by on January 16, 2012 – 12:48 pmNo Comment

The Red City Tour has enabled me to see the whole of my city in one day as all the stops are very conveniently placed throughout the city. With a bit of time management and planning ahead anybody should be able to do so.

The historical lessons learnt on the trip alone made the time well spent even if the trip wasn’t so picturesque already: From the Clock Tower, to St George Cathedral, District 6, Cape Town’s Castle (which is actually a fort, something I learnt on trip) and the glimpses of Robben Island that one gets from Table Mountain are just some of the amazing sights one can see while enjoying a City Sightseeing tour. The voice commentary on bus adds to the wonderful experience as it makes one aware of just how rich Cape Town’s history is, and how big a role it has played in the development of the country as a whole.

The highlight of my trip was finally getting to go up the cable way at stop 13 and experience the wonderful view of the city from the top of Table Mountain. It was unbelievable (better than i ever imagined) It is really something one cannot explain, you definitely have to experience it for yourself. Table Mountain is undoubtedly the cities most significant landmark and fully deserves its spot as a new addition to the list of 7 Natural Wonders of the World.

Depending on where you are standing, everything in the city can be seen form the top of Table Mountain. Exploring is totally safe as there are clearly laid out paths leading to all corners of the mountain. It is advisable though to travel in a group. For the more adventurous there are hiking trails and abseiling points.

Riding and walking around all day can be very energy sapping as I realized very early into the tour. Enough water and snacks should be packed in to help keep you going. The weather changes almost instantly (on table mountain even more so than in rest of the city) so take along something warm.

All in all I had a awesome day and at the very next opportunity I will do it again and this time, take more of my friends along, as this tour is something every Capetonian and South African should get the chance to experience at least once.

I am a young adult from Cape Town with a dangerous and often unusual sense of what having fun means. I have an opinion about everything and anything an I’m not afraid to state those ideas. I am an avid sports fan and proudly South African. I also enjoy reading, photography and writing.
