My Bus Trip and more Celebration at the FIFA Fan Fest

Submitted by on July 29, 2010 – 9:09 amNo Comment

We decided to go on the City Sightseeing bus trip on Wednesday as it was the only day that both my daughters were available. I was quite disappointed that the Cape Town weather wasn’t as great as it had been on other days.. not very nice for taking good shots!  We were also so cold that I hardly took my hands out my pockets!

We took the train yet again and walked to the V&A Waterfront again. I was sorry at the time that the Bus Tour didn’t have a starting point at the station as we were eager to get on the road, so that we could get a full day in! We unfortunately got there late as my daughter had to go to school on Wednesday for a couple of hours which delayed us.

Anyway the walk was pretty as always and my Mom did just fine too!  I organised a big group to go along – and I know if I had mentioned to anyone else we would have had more people eager to join in the fun!

The people that went with me, were my husband, my Mom, my daughters and their boyfriends and our guest from the UK.

We decided that this time because we were limited time-wise, that we would sit and listen to what was being said, and next time we will go along earlier and actually get off at the various stops. We were finding the talk so interesting we didn’t want to get off anyway. The only reason we did get off is because we were hungry!  I was silly in that I never realised that the red bus route never went to Hout Bay and we were looking forward to fish and chips at Mariners Wharf..  Unfortunately the pamphlet handed to us didn’t mention the various stops so I only realised long into the trip we were going to Hout Bay!

I must say that as a Cape Town lover I was intrigued with the information that was passed on to us. So much I never knew – I was surprised. Everyone learnt from the experience. I definitely have a few stops I want to do in the future!

The ride came to an end far too quickly – but as I said that was our own fault.. Everyone was very sorry to get off! We wanted to carry on going! I was very grateful that the driver dropped us off at the station on en route to his next destination.

We took a slow walk through the station and up the FIFA Fan Fest. It was still very early so we went up to a little bar on the corner above the entrance to the Fanfest. We had seen people hanging out the windows before so we decided to investigate. Funny any other time we might not have gone in there but the view was incredible and we were able to monitor the park as it slowly filled up and we watched at the light change as the sun set. Really was a beautiful site.

We went down before dark as can be seen from the pictures and the park slowly filled. Yet another fan/fun filled evening was had by all.  We all love singing Wave the Flag together.. Everyone sings with such passion!

After the game was finished we caught the train home again and we were so impressed when 6 policemen led a group of 6 young possible trouble makers to an area where they could be contained. Thank you once again to Metrorail for employing extra staff along the lines.

Everyone was still so hyped up and lots of chatting happened on the way home!

Yvonne LudenMy Name is Yvonne Luden. I have always been passionate about photography for as long I can remember. I spent the whole of my first salary buying my first camera – a second hand one at that! I have upgraded each time and now am the proud owner of a Nikon D200. I just love taking photos around our beautiful city and country. I also love taking photos of children and fun family shots. I feel that one learns from every single picture you take, and one can only get better!
