City Sightseeing  Cape Town in 2008 were presented with the Environmental Concern Award in recognition of their contribution towards improving the environment. They have reduced waste generated by their operations and increased recycling to cut the amount of waste sent to a landfill site. All waste on the buses is recycled and seven specially allocated bins are on each bus which separate plastic, cans, paper, glass and cardboard. In 2009 to date, City Sightseeing have recycled 200 bins.

City Sightseeing are reducing their carbon footprint significantly by reducing emissions into the atmosphere and so their impact on climate change and air quality by expanding their fleet of buses with low-emission busses. Pedal Power is promoted internally as an alternative mode of transport. City Sightseeing is complying with various ISO 14001 principles for waste reduction and recycling. They are also accredited with the Forest Stewardship Council and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes.
