City Sightseeing Cape Town International Operator of the Year Award

Cape Town beats over 86 international destinations to win top honours at the City Sightseeing Annual International Awards Ceremony. The World is Coming to Cape Town and City Sightseeing gets in on the action

Cape Town, South Africa, June 2009 – Innovation, Customer Service, Branding and the use of Technology were high on the agenda for the delegates that attended this year’s Annual International City Sightseeing Conference and Awards ceremony that took place in Portugal from 30 May – 02 June 2009.  Claus Tworeck, founder and CEO of City Sightseeing Cape Town, was there to represent his company and the Mother City and returned to Cape Town having been awarded the highest accolade amongst his peer tour operators from over 86 global cities.  It is official: City Sightseeing Cape town is ‘International City Sightseeing Operator of the Year’.

Claus Tworeck said, “We’re ecstatic!  It’s especially satisfying knowing that we beat top international open top bus operators from cities like New York, Paris and London, as South Africa and Cape Town gear up to welcome the world for the Confederations Cup and 2010 Soccer World Cup amongst many other high profile events that our country is hosting. Our staff are highly trained professional tourism ambassadors that manage each interaction with both local and international tourists; combined with a team of customer service agents and operations technicians we worked hard to achieve the high quality standards we set; we’ve used technology to streamline the information and booking processes, maintained the buses in top condition and invested in marketing and communication in order to achieve high levels of brand awareness and a good overall brand experience. Our strategy for ‘going green’ by investing in fuel efficient state of the art buses and using recycled paper for all our brochure and other printed communication are just two examples of why we were the first South African bus company to receive accreditation from the Heritage Environmental agency.  It was also lauded by the International City Sightseeing panel; highlighting our commitment to a lower carbon footprint and a more sustainable natural environment for Cape Town.  This combined effort and our approach to putting Cape Town’s best foot forward at every interaction is what has brought us success and this award signifies that milestone.”

City Sightseeing Cape Town’s role is to showcase the many sights and history of Cape Town and to facilitate an income for Cape Town’s businesses and industries that rely on tourism to sustain them.  City Sightseeing Cape Town plays a vital role in the tourism ecosystem, a job we take seriously especially during times like these when people are cost conscious and want more value for money but don’t want to compromise on the experience.

“Every one of us has a role to play; today as we celebrate a year to go, we remember that moment with great pride when South Africa was given the rights to host this great soccer spectacle. We call on all Capetonians to pick up their vuvuzelas, to join in the festivities and volunteer their services to show Africa and the rest of the world how we make it happen,” concludes Tworeck.
